53 Weeks Later

No I have not diversified into the movie business and that is not the title of my new movie.  This is also not the time gap between my last post and this one.  Although i was nearly down for the count.  Then what is it?  It is the time taken by the famous Calcutta mint to deliver the coin set.  The set in question is 60 years of IGM Kolkata.  Irony?  You think?  Maybe, Maybe not.

The positive aspect if you can call it that is there are 3 major varieties.  Happy collecting!

Restruck By A Mule?

Pardon me for being tongue in cheek.  It seems that everything in Indian numismatics is a re-strike or a mule.  We have already discussed mules at length so we will take up re strike now.  People are calling the Hyderabad mint sets re strikes.  There is a small problem Hyderabad mint has never struck those coins previously.  It seems people only wake up when sets are announced.  When the same coin is issued by the four different mints no one says anything.

Making loose comments and using bad terminology pushes the field back by many years.  It is imperative that the stakeholders understand this or they will keep shooting themselves in the foot.  As we all eagerly await the next round of releases from the Hyderabad mint here is some food for thought. Happy collecting!
